FAQs

What is an ADHD assessment?

An ADHD assessment is a structured evaluation carried out by a qualified psychiatrist or clinical psychologist to determine whether an individual meets the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. It includes a detailed clinical interview, a review of your personal and developmental history, and standardised measures to assess attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. For a diagnosis, symptoms must typically be present from childhood and impact daily life.

Why do I need an ADHD diagnosis?

A formal ADHD diagnosis can provide real clarity and relief — helping you understand persistent challenges with focus, organisation, timekeeping, emotional regulation, or restlessness. But the benefits go beyond understanding.

A diagnosis is the foundation for accessing the right support, whether that includes medication, therapy, coaching, or simple strategies to manage daily life more effectively. For children, it can help schools put the right provisions in place. For adults, it can improve relationships, self-esteem, and career direction.

It also brings practical protections and opportunities. A diagnosis may give you rights under the Equality Act 2010, meaning your employer or education provider is legally required to make reasonable adjustments — such as flexible deadlines, quiet workspaces, or structured routines — to support your needs. It can also support applications for Access to Work funding, Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA), or exam accommodations.

Most importantly, it’s often the first step toward accessing safe and effective medication, which for many people can dramatically reduce symptoms and improve day-to-day functioning.

Whether for you or your child, a diagnosis can help you move from frustration and uncertainty to understanding, confidence, and access to the tools that make life easier.

How are clients assessed for ADHD?

Assessments are conducted either in person or via secure video call, depending on what suits you best. The process may involve two or three appointments, each lasting between one to three hours, depending on the complexity of the case and whether the assessment is for a child or an adult. This allows us to gather a full and accurate picture, including input from parents, carers, or teachers when needed. We encourage you to share real-life examples of any challenges you're experiencing, as this helps our clinicians build a well-rounded understanding. Once the assessment is complete, we’ll talk you through the outcome and, if ADHD is diagnosed, discuss tailored treatment options.

What happens after the ADHD assessment?

If a diagnosis is confirmed, we’ll offer clear guidance on next steps. This may include medication, therapeutic support, or practical strategies for managing symptoms in everyday life. Our team is here to support you beyond diagnosis, offering follow-up care and advice tailored to your needs.

What’s included in your Post-Diagnosis Package?

Our post-diagnosis package is designed to give you or your child the right support following an ADHD diagnosis. It starts with a conversation about how ADHD is affecting day-to-day life — whether at school, work, or home — and what kind of help would be most useful.

From there, we develop a personalised plan that may include medication, talking therapy, coaching, and practical tools to support focus, organisation, and emotional regulation. Some people benefit from short-term, targeted support, while others prefer a longer-term approach that evolves over time.

As you progress, we fine-tune your treatment based on your evolving needs, ensuring each step you take with us enhances your journey towards optimal well-being and achievement.
