Pre-Birth Family Support Service
Supporting families to create safer, more stable futures from the very beginning
We work with the whole family, not just the mother, because sustainable change happens in relationships, not in isolation.
A Different Kind of Support During Pregnancy
Pregnancy can feel overwhelming, especially when there are concerns from services or uncertainty about what might happen next.
Many parents we work with are already trying to make changes, but may feel judged, anxious, or unsure who to trust.
At Crystal Pathways, we offer something different. We are not social workers and we do not make decisions about your child. We work alongside you to help you understand what is expected and support you to make real, positive changes.
About the Pre-Birth Support Service
Our pre-birth support service works with expectant parents where there are safeguarding concerns or complex life circumstances.
We typically become involved during pregnancy, often in the lead-up to important decisions about a baby’s future. Our role is to bring clarity, build stability, and support meaningful change.
Our service supports families:
- During pregnancy
- In the lead-up to safeguarding decisions
- Alongside existing professionals and service.
Our focus is clear. We support parents to make real, measurable changes that improve outcomes for their child.
This service is currently available to families in Torfaen County Borough.
Who We Support
We support expectant parents who may be:
- Involved with children’s services
- Experiencing mental health challenges, substance use, or domestic abuse
- Facing complex or unstable life circumstances
- Feeling overwhelmed or unsure where to start
If you are trying to make changes but need support, we can help you take the next steps.
How We Help
Our support is practical, consistent, and tailored to each family. We focus on real-life change, not just conversations.
This includes:
- One-to-one support to build routines and stability
- Home visits to support change in your environment
- Help preparing for meetings and court
- Ongoing support with clear goals and progress
Our Approach
Our approach is supportive, honest, and focused on outcomes. We take time to understand each parent’s situation while staying clear about what needs to change to keep children safe.
- Trauma-informed and relationship-led
- Honest and transparent
- Focused on practical behaviour change
Working with the Whole Family
We involve fathers, partners, and wider family members wherever possible. Strong support networks play a key role in creating safer, more stable environments for children.
We also help families prepare for Family Group Conferences and build support beyond professional involvement.
